Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has paid an official visit to the Slovak Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Bratislava, marking a major step forward in the strategic defence partnership between the two nations.
In a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the visit took place on Friday, 23 May 2025, with General Musa leading the Nigerian delegation.
Upon arrival, General Musa was received by his Slovak counterpart, General Daniel Zmeko, and other senior military officials. The visit featured a colourful guard of honour, which the Nigerian CDS inspected.
The statement noted that both defence chiefs held extensive discussions on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. Key areas of focus included military training and capacity building, acquisition of defence equipment, technology transfer, innovation, and enhanced defence production capabilities.
General Musa expressed appreciation for Slovakia’s support and identified areas of mutual benefit, especially in joint defence industrialization. In response, General Zmeko commended Nigeria’s resilience and its leading role in regional security, pledging Slovakia’s continued support and partnership.
According to Brigadier General Gusau, the visit is expected to lay the foundation for long-term strategic collaboration between the two countries, particularly in defence and security operations.
**ABC** learned that the evolving agreement aims to foster deeper technological cooperation and boost Africa’s aerospace and defence capabilities through sustained collaboration and innovation.
