In a major counter-xterrorism breakthrough, Nigerian intelligence has exposed the true identity of an 18-year-old terror suspect arrested in Chad — the son of late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf.
Chadian forces, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), had earlier detained the suspect, who initially claimed to be Mustapha Bana Abubakar. He was arrested alongside five others during a counter-terrorism raid, including key Boko Haram and ISWAP operatives: Hassan Abdurrahman, suspected logistics aide; Abubakar Mohammed, alleged recruiter; Abubakar Ali Madou, weapons and mobility handler; and a minor, Abdurrahman Mohammed Abdallah, believed to have taken part in operations.
It was only after Nigeria raised the alarm through the MNJTF that the suspect’s real identity was confirmed — Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, the younger brother of notorious ISWAP leader, Habib Yusuf, alias Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi.
Security sources say the development underscores the vital role of regional intelligence-sharing in tracking down remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP across the Lake Chad Basin.
