The Emir of Nguru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mai Mustapha Ibn Kyari, has formally turbaned Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja as the Tafida of Nguru Emirate, in a colourful ceremony that highlighted continuity of tradition, leadership responsibility, and service to the people.

The historic turbaning took place on Wednesday, December 25, at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru, Yobe State, attracting a large crowd of royal family members, traditional title holders, community leaders, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to witness the occasion.

Adding weight to the ceremony was the strong security presence, with the Chief of Army Staff represented by the Sector Commander, Sector 2, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Beyidi Markus Gura. Also in attendance was former Chief of Naval Staff, Auwal Zubairu Gambo, whose presence underscored the growing collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies in safeguarding peace across the region.

While performing the turbaning rites, the Emir charged the new Tafida to uphold the virtues of integrity, loyalty, fairness, and selfless service associated with the title. He urged Engr. Maihaja to remain steadfast in supporting unity, development initiatives, and peaceful coexistence within the emirate.

The Tafida title is regarded as one of the notable positions in the Nguru Emirate Council, carrying advisory duties and community leadership responsibilities. Observers noted that the appointment of Engr. Maihaja, widely respected as a technocrat and community-oriented leader, reflects the Emirate’s confidence in his ability to blend traditional values with modern governance principles.

Shortly after the palace ceremony, the new Tafida announced key appointments within his household. He named Muhammad Yusuf Yunusa as Yerima of Tafida, and Al’amin Mustapha Maihaja as Majidadi Dadi of Tafida, a step seen by many as laying a strong administrative foundation for effective service delivery.

The announcements were greeted with prayers and goodwill messages, as residents and guests expressed optimism that the new Tafida would champion harmony, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across the emirate.

The ceremony ended with special prayers for lasting peace, progress, and stability in Nguru Emirate, Yobe State, and Nigeria as a whole.
