Nguru Local Government Area LGA triumphed in the inaugural KMT Unity Cup football tournament, defeating Potiskum LGA 5-1 in a thrilling final at the Miyatti Sport Arena, Damaturu.
The competition, sponsored by developmental activist and legal luminary Barr. Kashim Musa Tumsah, was designed to promote peace, unity, and grassroots sports development among youths in Yobe State.
Hassan Bijod, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, told newsmen that the event served as a pilot scheme ahead of a larger statewide tournament, which will begin at the ward level and progress to the state finals.
He quoted Barr. Tumsah as drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s use of sports to foster national cohesion in South Africa, stressing that unity remains critical for societal progress.
“This tournament brought together teams from three distinct territorial zones, reinforcing the message that development thrives in a peaceful, united society,” Bijod stated.
