The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in collaboration with the Mercy Corps, and CDD, have united stakeholders to celebrate the 2024 International Peace Day in Katsina State.
The event which took place on Sept. 1, 2024 in Katsina, was organised through the Conflict Mitigation and Community Reconciliation in North-West (CMCR-NW) project.
The 2024 international peace day celebration in Katsina, with the theme ‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace’, was funded by the European Union.
Mr Philip Ikita, the Senior Programme Manager of Mercy Corps, said the event was aimed at strengthening the existing peace and unity in the region.
According to him, the theme of the event should serve as a message through which the participants can continue to embrace peace among them, and stay away from conflict.
Mr Musa Abdullahi, representative of the IOM, encouraged the participants to engage in meaningful discussions in promoting peace and unity in their communities.
He further urged them to work together towards creating a positive and impactful experience.
Dr Bala Abdullahi Hussaini from the Federal College of Education Katsina, during the event presented a paper on Cultivating A Culture Peace among the Society.
During the event the Community Response Network Chairman Jibia Local Government Dr. Suleiman Bello, discussed Strengthening Community peace Structure.
Also Hajiya Wasila Sani Saulawa spoke on Cultivating the Culture and Peace along Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Similarly, the state Amira, Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Dr Murja Salihu Barau talks on Handing Down Peace to the Next Generation.
In a vote of thanks, the representatives of IOM, Mercy Corps, and CDD thanked the participants for their contributions and expressed hope for a more peaceful Nigeria.
Participants at the event including traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, NGOs, students and people with special needs among others.
