Even as the Edo State House of Assembly is yet to officially react to the bickering over its suspension of the 18 local government chairmen in the state, Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has warned that it prioritized keeping citizens’ hopes alive by passing people-oriented bills and resolutions.

Agbebaku, who handed the warning in his New Year Message, tasked all to continue to cooperate and support the state government, saying Governor Monday Okpebholo is focused on delivering more dividends of democracy to the Edo people.

His words: “As your representatives in the 8th Assembly, we are resolved to keep your hopes alive by passing people-oriented legislation geared towards socio-economic and industrial development for the state to maintain its status as a business hub and an enviable nerve center of commerce and industry.”

Apparently dismissing the argument that the Assembly has turned a rubber stamp of the state governor, Agbebaku acknowledged the robust synergy between the legislature and executive as well as the unwavering support of the Judiciary and the electorate in 2024.

This, he said, is responsible for the successes recorded in surmounting the challenges encountered in the state within the year.

While expressing hope that the year 2025 will come along with new hopes, aspirations, and enormous socio-economic and political opportunities, he urged the people of the state to maintain their resilience and ingenuity to harness the opportunities for a better and prosperous year.

He also rejoiced with Nigerians for marking the end of the year 2024 peacefully and ushering in the New Year 2025 in high spirits.

Agbebaku urged citizens to renew their hope in Nigeria by demonstrating an increased commitment to advancing the nation’s growth and development.

He stated: “Our greatest strength as Nigerians lies in our resilience and our ability to unite in pursuit of ambitious goals, despite our differences.

This moment in our history calls for us to embrace these strengths more than ever. In the new year, let us prioritize the values and goals that unite us.”

“As your representatives in the 8th Assembly, we are resolved to keep your hopes alive by passing people-oriented Legislation geared towards socio-economic and industrial development for the state to maintain its status as a business hub and an enviable nerve center of commerce and industry.”
