A groundbreaking proposal for the creation of Etiti State in Nigeria’s South-East region passed its first reading in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Etiti State, if established, will comprise 11 local government areas, with Lokpanta designated as its capital.

The bill aims to amend the 1999 Constitution, replacing “36” with “37” to include the new state, and adding “Etiti” immediately after “Enugu” in the list of states.

The move marks a significant step towards reshaping the political landscape in Nigeria’s South-East.
