New Dawn for Nigeria Police: Tinubu Signs Landmark Bills Strengthening Professionalism, Welfare,Funding

Borno State Government

A landmark stride toward a modern, professional, and better-equipped Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly has passed — and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to — the Police Institutes Establishment Bill and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The two transformative legislations signal a new era for the Force, addressing decades-long challenges in training, infrastructure, and welfare. The Police Institutes Establishment Act consolidates all police training and research institutions nationwide, expanding their academic scope and aligning curricula with international law enforcement standards.

The amended Trust Fund Act, meanwhile, guarantees sustainable and transparent funding for logistics, training, equipment, and welfare — key areas critical to operational efficiency.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, hailed the National Assembly’s patriotism and commended President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to modern policing.

He assured Nigerians that the Force, now backed by stronger legal and institutional frameworks, will intensify reforms to produce world-class officers and deliver citizen-focused, accountable policing services.

According to the IGP, “This is not just a milestone for the Nigeria Police Force — it is a victory for national security, professionalism, and public trust.”
