The North East Development Commission, in line with the directive of Vice President Kashim Shettima and its mandate to support humanitarian response efforts, has distributed relief materials to victims affected by the recent multiple bomb blast incidents in Maiduguri and insurgency attacks in Gwoza, Ngoshe, Monguno, and Kukawa areas of Borno State.
The relief items were presented at the Commission’s warehouse in Maiduguri by the NEDC Borno State Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Umar, on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed G. Alkali.
The intervention was aimed at bringing urgent support to families and communities affected by the attacks. Items distributed included 2,000 bags of 25 kilogram rice, 2,000 cartons of spaghetti and pasta, 400 gallons of vegetable oil, 100 bags of 50 kilogram sugar, 1,000 mats, 500 women’s wrappers, 500 men’s wears, 500 children’s wears, and 2,000 blankets.
The Commission also provided assorted building materials to help affected communities begin the process of rebuilding. These included 1,000 bundles of zinc, 5,000 ceiling pieces, 10,000 pieces of timber, 2,000 rods, and 1,000 cartons of nails.
In addition to the material support, the NEDC announced financial assistance for affected families. Each household of deceased victims will receive N50,000, while each hospitalized victim will receive N30,000 to support immediate medical and welfare needs.
A breakdown of the distribution showed that Konduga received 300 bags of rice, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 250 cartons of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 500 mats, 500 women’s wrappers, 500 men’s wears, and 500 children’s wears.
For Gwoza and Ngoshe, the Commission distributed 1,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of spaghetti, 500 cartons of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 2,000 mats, 500 women’s wrappers, 500 men’s wears, 500 children’s wears, and 2,000 blankets.
Kukawa received 500 bags of rice, 500 cartons of spaghetti, 200 cartons of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 1,000 mats, 500 women’s wrappers, 500 men’s wears, 500 children’s wears, and 1,000 blankets.
The items were received on behalf of the Borno State Government by the Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Ali Abdullahi, who acknowledged the intervention as a timely response to the needs of affected victims and vulnerable households.
The distribution reflects ongoing efforts to provide relief, restore dignity, and support recovery for communities impacted by violence in Borno State.
