The National Board for Technical Education NBTE has officially approved the Katsina Youth Craft Village as a certified National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) Training Provider.
The announcement was conveyed in an official letter signed by NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, and addressed to the Coordinator of the Centre. The approval follows a successful resource inspection, confirming that the centre meets the national standards required to deliver NSQ programmes.
With this recognition, the Katsina Youth Craft Village—operating campuses in both Katsina and Malumfashi—is now authorized to train and certify young people in a variety of vocational trades. These include:
Automobile Mechanics, Carpentry & Joinery, Computer Hardware Maintenance & Repairs, Cosmetology, Hospitality & Catering (Food & Beverage Services), Garment Making, Leather Work, Masonry, Mobile Phone Repairs & Maintenance, Photography & Cinematography, Plumbing, Welding, and Satellite Installation & Maintenance.
According to NBTE, the approval takes effect from 24th June 2025. The Centre is expected to operate within the guidelines of the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) and register with relevant awarding bodies for each of the approved trades.
Reacting to the development, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, congratulated the Katsina Youth Craft Village for attaining this milestone. He described the achievement as a bold step toward equipping young people with hands-on skills and unlocking economic opportunity at the grassroots.
“This recognition is a proud moment for Katsina,” the Governor said. “It affirms our commitment to skills development and paves the way for a more self-reliant generation of youth.”
Similarly, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, described the recognition as “a historic leap forward” in line with Governor Radda vision of empowering Katsina’s youth with practical skills for self-reliance and job creation.
“This is more than just a certification—it’s a doorway to opportunity,” the Coordinator added. “With this, young men and women across Katsina now have access to hands-on training that’s nationally recognized and truly transformative.”
The approval marks a major milestone in the Radda administration’s broader human capital development agenda and brings the state one step closer to tackling youth unemployment and building a skilled, productive workforce.
