The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has drawn a hard line, threatening to discipline lawyers linked to Nafiu Bala Gombe over what it calls “frivolous” court actions destabilising party politics.
NBA President Afam Osigwe warned that any legal practitioner filing ex parte motions to interfere in intra-party affairs will face the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
The crackdown follows a contentious suit by Gombe against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership, which had already suffered a setback after Justice Emeka Nwite refused to grant an emergency order to halt party activities.
With the case now entangled in appellate proceedings, the NBA says it is ready to wield the big stick, vowing zero tolerance for legal maneuvers that threaten Nigeria’s democracy.
