The Nasrul-Lahi-il-Fatih Society (NASFAT), has trained 60 mosques’ Imams and community leaders on professional counselling skills to promote disputes resolution mechanisms in the society.
The NASFAT’s Guidance and Counselling Coordinator for Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states, Mrs Shakirat Na’Allah, said the programme was designed to enhance the capacity of Imams and group leaders on the require skills to handle resolutions.
” Participants play great role on settling disagreements, offer advices, guides and engaged on informal counselling at schools, mosques and settlements.
” We consider it important to upgrade their capacity, empower them with requisite skills relevant to global practices on counselling.
” Participants comprised Imams, community groups, youth and women association leaders from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states,” Na’Allah said.
She underscored the importance of guidance and counseling in all human lives shaping marriage lifestyles, communal and societal livings for proper understanding and peaceful coexistence.
NASFAT’s Counselling Committee Chairman, Dr Oladapo Koyumu, reatraited the organisation’s determination to expand the initiative across the nation in order contribute to dispute resolution mechanism at various levels.
Koyumu called for increased dedication toward promoting services that will foster peace and development in the society.
He thanked organisations that supported the drive and urged the participants to concentrate on utilisation of the new ideas, share experiences and educate others their in their respective settlements.
Former Commissioner of Education in Sokoto state, Prof. A’isha Madawaki, described the training as relevant and timely in recognition of the disputes that occured in the society.
Madawaki said efforts would strengthen community relationship and family living and children upbringings that would shape understanding, responsible and accessible peace building initiatives.
The Executive Director of Life Helpers Initiative, Mr Tayo Fatini, said the training is a landmark achievement toward bridging the garp of traditional activity with professional capacity.
Fatini enjoined the groups to dedicate more efforts on educating others on the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, dialogue and settlings all forms of disputes amicably.
Guidance and Counselling specialists, Dr Abdulhakim Olawake and Dr Adekunle Sa’id from Lagos State University of Education made presentations of counseling techniques.

NASFAT is a humanitarian and social arm of the Muslim faith with focus on women, youths and children development.
