The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have launched a five-day workshop in the North East, aimed at enhancing data collection for the National Action Plan (NAP) on Human Trafficking (2022-2026).
The workshop, supported by the Swiss Government, equips 40 participants, including officers, civil society organizations (CSOs), and state task force members, with skills to utilize harmonized data tools.
NAPTIP Director General, Binta Bello, highlighted the pivotal role of accurate data in combating human trafficking. “Reliable data enables evidence-based strategies to track trends and allocate resources effectively,” she noted.
UNODC Country Representative Cheikh Toure, represented by Ms. Ifeoma Kenebi, praised NAPTIP’s commitment and urged participants to master reporting tools to enhance coordination across agencies.
Zonal Commander Mohammed Barde emphasized that the initiative strengthens response mechanisms and interagency collaboration, ultimately safeguarding victims’ rights and dismantling trafficking networks.
The training, which builds on successful sessions in other regions, includes technical sessions, ethical considerations, and practical activities, ensuring a united front against human trafficking nationwide.
