The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), threatening to disrupt its upcoming board meeting over the association’s exclusion from the board.

In a statement released on Sunday, NANS leaders described their omission as “unacceptable” and a deliberate attempt to sideline students from key decisions affecting their future. They argued that as primary beneficiaries of the student loan scheme, their representation on the board is non-negotiable.

“If NELFUND proceeds with any meeting without student representation, we will mobilize nationwide protests to shut down its operations,” the statement read.

The controversy comes amid growing concerns over transparency in the management of the student loan fund, which was established to provide financial assistance to Nigerian students. NANS insists that having a seat at the table is crucial to ensuring accountability and fairness in loan disbursement.

As tensions rise, all eyes are on the NELFUND leadership to see if they will reconsider their stance or risk a showdown with the country’s student body.
