The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has issued a strong demand for the immediate release of its President, Comrade Atiku Isah, allegedly detained by the Department of State Services DSS under unclear circumstances.

In a statement issued today, NANS condemned what it described as an “unprovoked and unlawful arrest” of its leader and called on the DSS to act within the bounds of the constitution.

The student body also called on the management of the hotel where the alleged violent attack and arrest took place to release CCTV footage to clarify the events that led to the assault and arrest of Comrade Isah.

“We demand transparency. The Nigerian people deserve to know the truth,” the statement read, adding that any attempt to intimidate student leaders would be met with nationwide resistance.

NANS further warned of mass student protests if their president is not released unconditionally, declaring that democracy must not be trampled by security excesses.

No official statement has yet been released by the DSS.
