The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has cautioned fellow students against involvement in insurgency, drug abuse and other vices.
Mr Bappah Hassan, the NANS’ National Coordinator, Zone E North-East Region made the call on Thursday in Damaturu at the North-East Security Summit 2024.
The theme of the summit is ‘Engaging North-East Students Positively in War Against Boko Haram Insurgency and Drugs Abuse’.
Hassan said the summit was aimed at educating students on the dangers of political thuggery, drug abuse, and Boko Haram insurgency, as well as promoting peace and development in the region.
“We are here for a security conference for North-East students. We gather the entire student leaders of the six states of the region.
“As the indigenous students of this region, we have learned that there are security challenges, which is why we gather fellow students to educate them on how to avoid these vices and maintain peace and order,” Hassan said.
He added that NANS was collaborating with the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to improve the quality of life of the region’s youths.
“We are also looking forward to enlightening out-of-school youths to become productive members of society,” he said.
