In a major breakthrough against terrorism in Katsina State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has destroyed a notorious enclave of bandit kingpin Babaro at Pauwa Hill in Kankara Local Government Area, freeing 76 kidnapped victims, mostly women and children.
The precision air raid, launched between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, came as part of an intensified manhunt for Babaro and his gang—the masterminds of the deadly attack on Gidan Mantau in Malumfashi last week.
Confirming the development, the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs said the rescued victims included all those abducted during the Unguwan Mantau attack. However, one child tragically lost his life during the ordeal.
The ministry described the operation as a “decisive strike” that not only freed captives but also weakened Babaro’s long-standing stronghold, which has terrorized communities across Kankara and beyond.
“This breakthrough reflects the renewed momentum of security operations across Katsina State. It is part of a broader strategy to dismantle hideouts, weaken criminal networks, and end the cycle of killings, kidnappings, and extortion,” the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said.
The state government commended the gallantry of the Nigerian Air Force, the Army, and other security agencies, vowing continued support through logistics, intelligence-sharing, and community engagement until banditry is completely wiped out.
Citizens were urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid ongoing security operations.
With security forces stepping up air and ground offensives, authorities insist Katsina is steadily reclaiming its towns and villages from the grip of criminals.
