In a continued effort to foster stronger ties with local communities, the Nigerian Air Force NAF has conducted a free medical outreach in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, reaching approximately 1,500 residents with essential healthcare services.
The outreach, organized in celebration of NAF’s 61st anniversary, targeted children, pregnant women, and the elderly across several communities in the area. The initiative aimed to address pressing health needs while reinforcing the bond between the military and civilians.
Group Captain Emeka Ifebi, Commander of the 263 NAF Reference Hospital in Daura, emphasized that the event reflects NAF’s broader commitment to supporting civilian well-being alongside its defense duties.
“Our team is here to provide free consultations, malaria, diabetes, and hypertension screenings, dental checks, as well as distribute medications, reading glasses, toothbrushes, and insecticide-treated nets,” Ifebi stated. He added that deworming treatments were also offered to children as part of the one-day intervention.
He called on residents to assist NAF in maintaining security by sharing timely and credible information, noting that civil cooperation plays a crucial role in tackling security threats such as banditry.
Appreciating the support from the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Ifebi commended his leadership and the logistical backing that made the outreach a success. “This initiative has brought joy to the people of Sandamu, and we are truly grateful,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Sandamu LGA Chairman Hon. Usman Nalado—represented by Council Secretary Hon. Nasiru Ibrahim Kwasarawa—lauded the outreach as a much-needed step towards closing the healthcare access gap that continues to affect rural communities.
“This effort demonstrates the Nigerian Air Force’s dedication not only to safeguarding the nation but also to promoting public health in underserved areas,” Nalado remarked. He encouraged residents to embrace the opportunity, reminding them that early diagnosis and treatment are vital for healthier lives.
The outreach further underscores the NAF’s holistic approach to national service—combining security operations with meaningful community engagement.
