The much-anticipated N70,000 allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members has hit a snag, causing frustration and hardship among the youth. While the Federal Government had promised the increase, many corps members were dismayed to receive only N33,000 in their latest payment, far short of the approved amount.
Expressing their disappointment, corps members like Habibah Oyedeji said, “I felt betrayed. The promise gave us hope, but this development shattered it.”
NYSC’s Director of Communication, Carol Embu, called for calm, explaining that the Federal Government is still processing the payment and arrears will be settled.
Corps members, however, continue to lament the delay, with some accusing the government of failing to keep its word amidst the country’s harsh economic climate.
