In a sweeping display of grassroots commitment, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior and member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has rolled out a mega empowerment package that has captured attention across Katsina State.
At a colourful ceremony held Saturday at the Musawa Local Government Secretariat, the federal lawmaker disbursed a whopping N54,270,000 in scholarship support to 2,199 students studying in various higher institutions nationwide—marking the second phase of his well-received educational intervention.
The scheme, supervised by the lawmaker’s Education Committee led by former Deputy Governor Alhaji Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi, identified beneficiaries across all political wards of Musawa and Matazu following a rigorous screening process.
A breakdown of the disbursement shows:1,029 university students received N30,000 each, totalling N30,870,000.1,170 students in Colleges of Education and Polytechnics, pursuing NCE and ND programmes, pocketed N20,000 each, amounting to N23,400,000.
Hon. Ahmed said the support was designed to level the playing field for students from less privileged homes, enabling them to pursue tertiary education without financial disadvantage. According to him, building the capacities of young people remains central to his political ideology.
“We are focusing our political ideology and programmes on building and empowering the youths to secure their future and the future of the society,” he told a cheering crowd.
Beyond scholarships, the lawmaker announced an ambitious plan to secure employment for 420 constituents, promising to personally present the job offer letters in Musawa for verification. This move follows his earlier effort where he facilitated federal appointments for over 181 constituents across key national institutions, including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and various federal hospitals.
In another major empowerment stride, Hon. Ahmed revealed that he will distribute 500 brand-new motorcycles to young people in the constituency to ease transportation challenges. He explained that although 350 units were initially procured, he decided to acquire an additional 150 motorcycles to accommodate more beneficiaries in the next phase.
The lawmaker maintained that he remains firmly committed to the development of his constituency and will not be distracted by critics whom he described as “naysayers.” According to him, his resolve is rooted in democratic principles, rule of law, and peaceful coexistence.
“Naysayers can do whatever they want, but as long as I am guided by the law and by what is right, I will continue to work for peace and sustainable development,” he stated.
Earlier, the Chairman of Musawa Local Government, Hon. Aliyu Idris Gingin, praised the initiative as a transformative push that brings dividends of democracy closer to rural communities. He noted that the lawmaker’s educational support complements the vision of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who has prioritized education and youth empowerment in the state.
The event, described by attendees as one of the most impactful constituency engagements in recent times, underscores Hon. Ahmed’s growing reputation as a representative focused on real development rather than political grandstanding.
