Bauchi Commissioner of police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has assured that his command has put in place crime preventive measures which include visibility policing, community partnership, constant raids of black spots, regular foot and vehicular patrols to nip in all forms of crimes and criminal
Other measures adopted by the command, according to the commissioner, are surveillance on buildings and vulnerable areas, stop and search, and intelligence-led on policing through partnership with sisters security agencies and other non-governmental organizations in order to secure the lives and properties of citizens.
Commissioner Auwal Mohammed attributed successes to the combined operations to the information availed to the police by members of the public, whom he said, are partners in progress with the Nigeria Police that share desires and aspirations to enable a safe and secure environment for all residents in the state.
He said, “Considering the geometric growth of security concerns through advanced technologies, the imperatives of policing with counter-superior facilities and equipment has become beseeching to reverse the increasing ugly trends of crime.
The commissioner therefore invited all and sundry to view and take security as the business of all, and support the Nigeria Police Force from any angle in its unrelenting drive to make the citizens sleep with their two eyes closed.
CP Auwal Mohammed explained that his command has continued with vigor the execution of its mandate in the fight against all forms of crimes and criminality in Bauchi state with the sustained operations of community policing engagements and other crime-fighting strategies
Mohammed enumerated the command’s achievements during his stewardship of 12 months from 6th July, 2023 to date which included the recording of 806 cases, and the arrest of 1, 365 suspects in 2023, and 342 cases with arrest of 712 suspects, thus making a total of 1148 cases and 2, 077 suspects
The commissioner, in a display of scorecard for the period under review, in a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed, said the period also witnessed the rescueing of 171 victims from kidnappers.
SP Ahmed Wakil disclosed that the Command’s operatives during the period recovered 37 AK47 riffles, 16) fabricated AK 47 riffles, 317 live ammunition calibre of AK-47 riffles, 250 Dane guns, 8 vehicles, 483 cow/sheep rustled, 2,116 different types of knives, and 3,419 different models of handheld phones.
SP Wakil stated, “The operations were married out in various locations including Mansur/Magama, Yankari forest, Lere, Masussuka and Gamji, all in Alkaleri and Ningi Local Government Areas which have been bedeviled by the activities of kidnappers and armed bandits in response to the command to aggressively pacify the affected locations from the activities of criminals”.
“Consequently, the following calibre of weapons were recovered during the operations, 377 rounds of 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition, 65 rounds of 7. 62x39mm ammunition, 4 AK 47 riffles, 20 fabricated and cut-to-size guns, One stery Mk4 SMG riffle, and 9 empty magazines.
Commissioner Auwal Mohammed, while expressing delight that Bauchi is gradually enjoying relative peace, recalled that is one of the states in North East geopolitical zones hitherto confronted with numerous security challenges such as kidnapping, armed banditry, cattle rustling, thugs and thuggery, rape and other manifestation of violent crimes.
