Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has said He will sign the death sentence of the suspect who allegedly burnt 24 people down in a mosque at Larabar Abasawa of Gezawa Local Government Area if found guilty of the offence.
Governor Abba Kabir who condemned the inhuman act, during a visit to the victims at the Murtala Mohammad Hospital on Sunday advised the police to prosecute the suspect for the heinous crime in a sharia court.
“Whatever the court decides, we will ensure that the victims of the Larabar Abasawa arson get justice and it condemns him to death after finding him guilty, we will not hesitate to sign the death warrant.”
The Governor Who went straight to the hospital after came back tto own from a trip to Abuja for to sympathize with the victims from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport after landing from Abuja.
According to him, for the avoidance of any doubt, the incendiarism that led to the death of 15 out of the 23 victims was neither politically motivated nor a terrorist attack on the residents of the state.
He further explained that investigations have confirmed that the incident happened as a result of a rift between family members over inheritance.
Recall that last week, the suspect, Shafi’u Abubakar trapped the worshippers inside the mosque before setting the worship center in flames using gallons of petrol.
Police reports in Kano confirmed that Abubakar turned himself in after committing the crime that hospitalized all 23 of the victims.
The state governor promised to support the recovery of all the surviving victims, adding that the state government will leave no stone unturned until justice is served against the alleged perpetrator.
Donating a cash support of N100,000 each to the victims, the Governor explained that the arson was neither politically motivated nor an act of terrorism, reiterating that it was triggered by a rift between family members over inheritance.
