A suspected burglar lost his life in a mob attack on Sunday morning in Gwaka Village, located in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:00 a.m. when the unidentified man was caught attempting to break into a shop at the village market using a master key. Eyewitnesses said his suspicious actions attracted the attention of local traders and youths, who swiftly confronted him.
In a swift and brutal response, the mob descended on the suspect, beating him severely with sticks and other makeshift weapons before security operatives could intervene.
A community leader, who witnessed the situation spiraling out of control, quickly contacted security agents for assistance.
The suspect, who had been rendered unconscious by the mob, was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later deposited at the hospital mortuary for further examination and identification.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident and cautioned residents against resorting to jungle justice, urging the public to report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement for proper handling.
