MNJTF Honors Heroes, Marks Success of Operation Lake Sanity 2 with Medal Ceremony

The Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF has celebrated the remarkable success of Operation Lake Sanity 2 (OPLS 2) in a grand medal presentation ceremony at its headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad. The event, held on January 8, 2025, highlighted the bravery and sacrifices of the troops who contributed to the operation’s triumph.

Graced by the Chadian Minister of Armed Forces, Veterans, and War Victims, Issaka Maluoa Djamous, as the Special Guest of Honour, the ceremony underscored the critical role of collaboration in restoring stability to the Lake Chad region. Commending the troops’ dedication, the Minister described the operation’s success as a “significant milestone” in the fight against terrorism and instability.

In his remarks, MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, detailed the operation’s achievements, including the neutralization of over 310 terrorists, the dismantling of critical logistics bases, the arrest of 160 logistics suppliers and informants, and the surrender of more than 800 terrorists and their families. The operation also facilitated the repatriation of over 30,000 refugees and internally displaced persons.

The event honored the exceptional contributions of troops and commanders, with medals awarded to the Force Commander, sector commanders, and Chiefs of Defence Staff from troop-contributing countries. Families of fallen and wounded soldiers received tokens of appreciation, symbolizing the MNJTF’s profound gratitude for their sacrifices.

The ceremony concluded with the commissioning of a newly remodeled MNJTF Photo Stand, symbolizing a renewed commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer of MNJTF, reaffirmed the force’s dedication to sustaining the gains achieved through Operation Lake Sanity 2, building on the legacy of previous missions such as AMNI FAKAT, GAMA AIKI, and YANCIN TAFKI.

The event was attended by regional leaders, diplomats, and dignitaries, reflecting the broad support for MNJTF’s efforts to restore peace across the Lake Chad Basin.
