The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers killed or wounded during Operation Lake Sanity 2.
On October 11 and 12, 2024, MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Ali, presented compensation to the families of fallen heroes and wounded soldiers in ceremonies held in Mora, Cameroon, and Maiduguri, Nigeria.
In Mora, the event opened with a moment of silence for the fallen, led by Colonel Tookap Pierre Loti, Commander of Sector 1, who praised the soldiers as “heroes and valiant martyrs.” Major General Ali then delivered compensation tokens to the beneficiaries, acknowledging the high price paid for freedom.
In Maiduguri, Brigadier General Mohammed Babayo, Commander of Sector 3, expressed his deepest condolences, recognizing that no amount of compensation can truly honor the supreme sacrifice. However, he emphasized the importance of the gesture in supporting the bereaved during their difficult time. Major General Ali, alongside senior officers, including Major General Waidi Shaibu, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, distributed compensation to the beneficiaries.
Major General Ali praised the troops’ relentless efforts in ensuring peace and stability across the Lake Chad Basin. He reassured the families that their loved ones died with honor, contributing to regional security, and pledged the MNJTF’s continued support to the wounded in their recovery. The Force Commander also reaffirmed the force’s commitment to defeating Boko Haram terrorists.
The bereaved families, represented by Mrs. Afusat Abubakar, expressed their gratitude for the MNJTF’s support and recognition of the sacrifices made in securing peace in the region.
