In a powerful gesture of peace-building and humanitarian support, the Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF, in collaboration with the African Union (AU), has commissioned a series of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects in vulnerable communities across the Lake Chad basin.
Communities in Baga Sola, Litri, Bakatolerom, Barkalam, and Kaiga Ngoubenam along the Chad-Nigeria border received critical infrastructure and aid, including two solar-powered boreholes in Litri and Bakatolerom, along with a truckload of food, school supplies, and essential relief materials.
Representing the Force Commander Major General Godwin Mutkut, Deputy Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Mahamat Yaya Mahamat emphasized that these interventions aim to “cushion the suffering of communities devastated by Boko Haram insurgency” while fostering trust and cooperation between civilians and the military.
The distributed items include:
- Textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons for schools
- Rice, maize flour, spaghetti, praying mats for families
AVM Mahamat reiterated the MNJTF’s commitment to security, development, and community engagement, stressing that “military operations alone cannot solve the region’s challenges.”
The initiative received heartfelt appreciation from local leaders. The Council Chairman, speaking on behalf of the communities, pledged continued cooperation, vowing to report suspicious activities to MNJTF forces.
Dignitaries at the handing-over ceremony included Major General Moussa Haussa, Commander Operation Lake Chad, Dr. Christiana Idah of the AU Mission Support Team, key military leaders from Sector 1, and representatives of local communities.
This effort marks another milestone in the MNJTF’s mission to combine force with compassion in restoring peace and rebuilding lives across the Lake Chad region.
