MLGCA Inaugurates LG Transition, Hand Over Committee

Local Government Transition and Hand Over Committee has been inaugurated in Katsina State.

The Commissioner of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Bishir Tanimu Gambo inaugurated the Committee at the instant of the state Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda who at the Conference Hall of the Ministry on Wednesday 19Th March, 2025.

The Ministry’s action was based on the power bestowed to the Office of its Commissioner mandating it to constitute such Committee.

The Committee was mandated to prepare for the smooth and seamless transition and handing over of the current local government administration whose tenure was scheduled to expire on the 13th April 2025 to newly elected local councils administration set to be sworn – in on the 14th of April, 2025 for the next three years.

Each Committee according to the Commissioner was expected to go back to its LG to ensure collating all Data, liabilities and assets of that LG and produced a booklet in a form of handing over note to the newly elected LG Chairman.

A period of two weeks with effect from Wednesday 19Th March, 2025 was given to the respective LG Transition and Hand Over Committee within which to complete all the necessary documentation of the transition in five set of booklets.

Hon. Bishir Tanimu Gambo also revealed that a copy of the five booklets from each LGA is to be taken to the Office of the SGS, MLGCA, each LGA, Outgoing and incoming LG Chairmen will also be given a copy each.

He therefore charged members of the Committee to conduct their duty diligently, and expressed optimism that what ever the outcome, it will be beneficial between the outgoing administration and the incoming one.

The composition of the Committee revealed that for any local government that its current Chairman was reelected has five -member Committee that include Head of LG Administration as Chairman, Treasurer, LG Inspector, Internal Auditor as members, while Director Personnel to serve as Secretary, and for LG that has a change of Chairman, the newly elected Chairman can provide two of his representatives from outside to be included in the Committee to make it Seven – member Committee instead of Five – member Committee.
