Minister Hails NEDC’s Landmark Projects, Pushes for Timely Completion of Transformative Projects in Borno

The Minister of Regional Development, Uba Mai Gari Ahmadu, has praised the Northeast Development Commission NEDC for its rapid progress in delivering critical infrastructure projects in Maiduguri and across the region. During a two-day inspection tour, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development and post-conflict reconstruction in the Northeast.

During his two days working visit to home of peace recently, the minister focused on key NEDC projects, including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital’s ongoing developments, the Centre for Countering Violent Extremism, the Maternal and Childcare Unit at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, the Department of State Services (DSS) Office in Maiduguri, and the NEDC Headquarters under construction.

Additionally, Ahmadu assessed the Ngowom 1000 Housing Units and the 22.5-kilometer,Ngowom–Koshebe–Dusman–Zabarmari–Gongulong–Khaddamari Road network. This road corridor, crucial for boosting rice production and strengthening regional security, is expected to enhance trade and mobility within the Jere Bowl area.

At the NEDC Headquarters construction site, Ahmadu commended the swift pace of work, emphasizing that despite not being an engineer, the level of excavation, deployment of heavy machinery, and structural advancements were clear indicators of the project’s scale.

“The commitment and expertise demonstrated by the contractors are commendable,” he stated, urging strict adherence to global best practices in construction. He further stressed that the Federal Government’s financial commitments must yield durable infrastructure, with the NEDC Headquarters expected to be completed within the stipulated 24-month timeframe.

Minister Ahmadu also lauded the NEDC’s broader contributions to infrastructure, agriculture, and education, particularly its support for Borno State University and other institutions.

“We will maintain rigorous oversight, track expenditures meticulously, and ensure accountability at every level. The NEDC has demonstrated exemplary leadership, and I am highly impressed by its progress,” he concluded.
