In a devastating assault, militants overran a joint FDS/VDP security position in Kawara, near Tougan, Burkina Faso, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. The brazen attack claimed multiple lives, leaving a trail of sorrow and destruction.
Local sources revealed that the assailants overwhelmed the position, inflicting heavy casualties. Although the exact death toll remains undisclosed, the loss of life is said to be significant.
The attackers made off with a considerable arsenal, including 35 Kalashnikov rifles, 95 magazines, 55 pairs of ranger boots, and 500,000 CFA francs. They also looted 10 mobile phones and other personal belongings of security personnel.
This bold raid underscores the escalating insecurity in Burkina Faso, raising fresh concerns about the effectiveness of counterterrorism efforts in the region.
