Midnight Parley, Paris Signals: Kano Politics Hit Boiling Point

Borno State Government

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has set the political space abuzz following reports of a late-night, closed-door meeting with his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the latter’s Miller Road residence in Kano.

Insiders claim the hush-hush meeting was convened to persuade Kwankwaso to consider a defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, allegedly at the prompting of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Barely days after the reported nocturnal talks, Governor Yusuf jetted out to France, where he met President Tinubu—an encounter that instantly ignited intense speculation over high-stakes political bargaining and possible realignments ahead of future contests.

But the rumour mill was swiftly countered. Addressing supporters shortly after, Kwankwaso poured cold water on defection talks, declaring that he had “no price tag” and warning against political betrayal. He also took a swipe at the APC, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship as reasons he would not cross over.

With Kano’s political heavyweights trading signals from Miller Road to Paris, one thing is clear: the battle lines are being redrawn, and the road to 2027 just got a lot more dramatic.
