Midnight Mayhem: One Killed as Hoodlums Attack Ashaka Cement Airstrip in Gombe

Katsina state government

A daring nighttime raid on the Ashaka Cement Company airstrip in Bajoga Local Government Area ended fatally for one of the attackers, as security forces repelled the assault in a dramatic showdown.

According to reliable security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 11:43 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. Three unidentified hoodlums, wielding cutlasses and sticks, stormed the private airstrip with criminal intent.

The attackers chased off two civilian guards from Pilgrims Security Company and began hacking away at a signal tower crucial for aircraft operations—reportedly aiming to cart it away.

But before they could complete the theft, security reinforcements, including personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), arrived in a patrol vehicle, dispersing the assailants.

Undeterred, the hoodlums returned shortly after, resuming their destructive mission. During the second confrontation, security operatives opened fire, striking one suspect in the shoulder. He was immediately taken to General Hospital Bajoga but was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited at the Public Mortuary.

The other two suspects escaped under the cover of darkness. Authorities have launched a manhunt as investigations into the brazen attack continue.

The motive behind the attempted robbery remains unclear, but sources hint at a growing pattern of infrastructure-targeted theft in the region.
