Military investigators probing an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have reportedly arrested and are interrogating the Managing Director of a Federal Government agency based in the South-South region.
According to reports by The Punch, the arrest is part of ongoing investigations into a suspected network of individuals, including military officers and some civilians, accused of plotting to destabilize the current administration.
Sources revealed that the agency boss, whose identity has not yet been disclosed for security reasons, was taken into custody after intelligence allegedly linked him to certain financial and logistical dealings with some detained military officers.
It was further gathered that a joint security task force, comprising senior officers from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS), is handling the interrogation to determine the suspect’s level of involvement in the plot.
Security analysts say the investigation underscores the government’s heightened vigilance amid concerns about loyalty within the armed forces following recent redeployments and retirements of senior officers.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters and the Presidency are yet to issue an official statement on the latest arrest.
