Prices of staple grains have inched upward in local markets as of today, 14th August 2025, stirring fresh concerns among consumers.
A spot check showed maize with cob now selling between ₦32,000 and ₦38,000 per bag, up from previous rates, while maize without cob fetches ₦30,000 to ₦34,000.
Guinea corn (sorghum) also recorded a similar hike, with both red and white varieties now going for ₦32,000 to ₦35,000 per bag.
Traders attribute the price movement to seasonal supply fluctuations and rising transport costs, while buyers say the increases are squeezing household budgets.
With the harvest season still weeks away, market watchers warn that prices could climb further if supply fails to improve.
