A late-night love dispute has ended in tragedy after a 20-year-old man, Jibrin Saidu Lamido, was killed in a violent fight over a romantic relationship in Gurdadi village, Yusufari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to local sources, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Monday when the deceased reportedly visited the home of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Saratu Gata, in Kalameri village.
Witnesses said the situation turned violent after an unidentified man arrived at the scene, forcefully took the lady away, and taunted the victim to follow them “if he was truly a man.” In a fit of rage, Jibrin reportedly pursued them, leading to a heated confrontation between the two men.
The suspect allegedly attacked Jibrin with a cutlass, inflicting deep wounds on his neck. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Kumaganam, by security operatives from the Kumaganam Outstation, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
His body was released to his family for burial after an autopsy confirmed the cause of death.
The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect, vowing to bring him to justice.
Residents of the quiet farming community of Gurdadi have expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a senseless act fueled by jealousy and rivalry.
Police authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and assist with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
