Police in Niger State have taken a suspect into custody over the alleged murder of a herder who replaced him, following a job-related conflict in Malale village, Borgu Local Government Area.
The incident, which took place on April 30 around 12:30 p.m., was reported by the village head, Mallam Musa Abubakar, and one Usman Iliyasu of Tungan-Sule to the Malale Police Outstation.
According to police sources, Usman Iliyasu had employed 40-year-old Usman Mohammed as a cattle herder for two years but dismissed him in February 2025 after accusing him of theft during a pilgrimage to Mecca. Iliyasu then hired Ibrahim Salisu, who lived in the same area, as a replacement.
Tragically, Mohammed allegedly launched a violent attack on Salisu with a cutlass, fatally wounding him and accusing him of taking over his role. Salisu died at the scene.
Police officers from the New-Bussa Division responded promptly, documenting the scene and transporting the body to the General Hospital in New-Bussa for autopsy.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine the full details surrounding the fatal incident.
