Police operatives in Bauchi have arrested Rabi’u Safiyanu, a 20-year-old resident of Madina Quarters, for allegedly abducting and killing Yunusa Salisu, 4-year-old.
Safiyanu received about N100,000 in ransom from Salisu’s father after demanding about N500,000 before the release of his victim.
Confirming the incident to reporters in Bauchi on Sunday in a statement, Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said Salisu’s father became concerned about the non-release of his son after paying the initial N100,000 and reporred the matter at ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi.
SP Habib said ivestigation led to the arrest of Safiyanu who is a friend of the complainant’s younger brother with free access to the house.
He said Safiyanu confessed to taking the victim, strangling him, dumping the body at Warinje Hills, and demanding further ransom.
“Police recovered the decomposing corpse with marks of strangulation and a rope suspected to have been used in the act.
“The Officer in Charge of Police Clinic certified the victim dead. The body was photographed and subsequently released to relatives and buried on site for public health safety” the statement read in some parts.
He said the suspect is in police custody, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to takeover the case, ensure timely discreet investigation and prosecution.
He further charged residents to always observe people around them and report any suspicious activities to Police.
