In a ceremony held on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, at the Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad, Major General Godwin Mutkut officially assumed command as the new Force Commander (FC) of the MNJTF.
He succeeded Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, who left a legacy of strengthened regional security and counterterrorism achievements in the Lake Chad Basin.
During his inaugural address, Major General Mutkut expressed gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and member states for entrusting him with the role.
He pledged to build on past successes and intensify efforts to confront the region’s evolving security challenges. “I am deeply honored to take on this responsibility.
Together with stakeholders, we will consolidate our gains and push for sustained peace and stability across the Lake Chad Basin,” he stated.
Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, in his valedictory remarks, praised his successor’s qualifications and expressed confidence in his ability to excel in the role.
He highlighted Mutkut’s operational experience as former Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF, General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, and Force Commander of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Nigeria.
A seasoned military officer, Major General Mutkut is renowned for his expertise and leadership, particularly in combatting insurgency and banditry in North West Nigeria. His appointment as Force Commander reinforces the commitment of MNJTF member states to combating terrorism and enhancing security in the Lake Chad Basin.
The transition marks a new chapter in the MNJTF’s mission to restore peace and stability to the region.
