In a historic international press conference led by Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), crucial updates were shared regarding the ongoing Operation LAKE SANITY II.
The conference served as a platform to inform the public about the significant strides made since the commencement of the operation on April 23, 2024, with the collaborative efforts of troops from Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria.
Over the past month, the dedicated troops involved in Operation LAKE SANITY II have displayed unwavering determination in clearing key terrorist strongholds in the Lake Chad area, including locations such as Doron Naira, Zanari, and Bagadaza. However, the operation has not been without its challenges, as Major General Ali revealed that 6 casualties among the multinational troops have been recorded since the operation’s inception. In a solemn moment, he extended heartfelt condolences to the fallen soldiers and their families, emphasizing the enduring memory of their bravery and sacrifice.
Despite the obstacles faced, Operation LAKE SANITY II has achieved notable successes. A total of 176 terrorists have surrendered, and 57 individuals involved in terrorist activities have been apprehended. Additionally, a significant cache of armaments, including various weapons and logistical support items, was recovered during the operations, underscoring the impact of the multinational efforts in combating terrorism in the region.
The air interdictions conducted as part of Operation LAKE SANITY II have proven to be highly effective, with national Airforces from Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon executing strategic aerial operations that resulted in the destruction of crucial terrorist logistic bases and staging areas. Over 140 terrorists were neutralized in these precision air strikes, and a substantial amount of terrorist platforms and materiel were destroyed, significantly hampering their operational capabilities.
Major General Ali highlighted that the success of Operation LAKE SANITY II is a testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of the troops involved. While the operation continues, the progress made thus far represents critical steps towards restoring peace and stability in the region. He expressed deep appreciation for the Chiefs of Defence Staff from all contributing countries and reaffirmed the MNJTF’s steadfast commitment to creating a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad areas impacted by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.
Acknowledgment was also extended to the support provided by national operations such as Operation EMERGENCE 4 in Cameroon, Operation HADIN KAI in Nigeria, Chadian national operations, and Sector 4 in Diffa, Niger Republic, which have played instrumental roles as blocking forces for Operation LAKE SANITY II. Major General Ali expressed gratitude to the media for their continuous support and cooperation, assuring them of regular updates on further developments as the operation progresses.
The international press conference provided a comprehensive overview of the progress and achievements of Operation LAKE SANITY II, highlighting the collective efforts of the multinational forces in combating terrorism and working towards lasting peace and stability in the Lake Chad region.
