The Yobe State Police Command has raised the alarm on heightened security vigilance across the state following the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, urging residents to remain alert as Sallah approaches.
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Command expressed deep sympathy to the government and people of Maiduguri over the tragic incidents that occurred on March 16, 2026, at multiple locations within the city.
The Command described the attacks as unfortunate and called on citizens in Yobe to stay calm but security-conscious, especially in crowded areas, public spaces, and within their communities.
Following an emergency State Security Council meeting held at the Yobe Government House, authorities said comprehensive security measures have been activated across the state to forestall any breach during the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, and intelligence teams to intensify surveillance and ensure watertight security at mosques, recreational centres, parks, and other strategic locations before, during, and after the festivities.
Residents were also urged to play an active role in safeguarding their environment by reporting suspicious movements, objects, or individuals to the nearest security formation without delay.
The police further warned motorists against reckless driving during the festive period, stressing that traffic violations and dangerous road behavior would not be tolerated.
Of particular concern, the Command noted a recurring trend during past celebrations where some youths were seen carrying dangerous objects while celebrating. It issued a stern warning that such actions would attract swift legal consequences.
Communities were advised to strengthen neighbourhood watch systems and adopt proactive vigilance as part of collective efforts to prevent crime and ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.
As tension lingers in the region, the police insist that heightened alertness and public cooperation remain key to averting further security threats.
