The Special Adviser LG Inspectorate of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon Lawal Rufa’i Safana has reminded local government Works Department to ensure that the works awarded must be done in compliance with the Bill of Quantity and must desist from certifying jobs that are actually not completed.
The Special Adviser made this known when he inspected the renovation work of the health facility and some projects executed by the Chairman of the local council on Monday.
Projects so far inspected in Bindawa local government include Dallaje Mertanal Primary Healthcare Centre (MPHC), renovations work of Veterinary Clinic, Women Centre, Drainage in Dallaje Town and renovation of Jibawa PHC as well as wall fencing of Bindawa Police Divisional Office.
The Special Adviser similarly inspected expansion of wall fencing of Charanchi local government Secretariat and reconstruction of Half Bridge that links the communities of Safana Ward with Charanchi Town.
Briefing Newsmen shortly after terminating the inspection exercise in Charanchi local government area, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alhaji Mas’udu Banye expressed dismay over the unsatisfactory work executed by Contractors handling the five projects so far inspected in Bindawa LGA.
He accused the Works Department of the LGA for derailing from its statutory functions to protect the interest of Contractors for one thing or the other.
While emphasing the importance of following the Bill of Quantity of any work awarded, the Special Adviser warned that such attitude of negligence by Directors of LG Works Department will henceforth never be tolerated by the Inspectorate.
During the inspection exercise on the projects so far in Bindawa, the Team noted many corrections and asked the Director of Works of LGA to ensure that they are immediately fixed by the Contractors.
At Charanchi local government, the S A appreciated the efforts of the local council Chairman for his steadfastness to execute an acceptable projects at the local government Secretariat and the reconstruction of a half bridge for Safana Village communities.
Hon. Lawal Safana therefore said the Inspectorate will continue to inspect projects to ensure that value of the money that are appropriately being spent by the local governments administration.
On his part, the Charanchi local council Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Sani applauded the leadership style of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for the restoring the image of local government administration in the state and establishing an Inspectorate that stands the test of time regarding projects execution and other operations of the LGAs in the state.
