LG Training Workshop: State Government Strengthens Partnership with LGAs

The Katsina State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon Bishir Tanimu Gambo has charged Principal officers of the local government administration to embrace the spirit of togetherness by carrying everybody along to ensure discipline and good governance.

He gave the charge on Tuesday in Kano at the ongoing Local Government Staff Training Workshop facilitated by Kitari Concult at Tahir Guests Palace Kano.

Participants at the Two – Day Seminar include 9 Directors from each of the 11 local governments of Central Senatorial District.

Hon. Bishir Tanimu assured Radda administration’s commitment towards strengthening the existing partnership between the state government and local government councils in the state.

The Commissioner explained that the ongoing Training Workshop was to restorate and reshapen the capability of officials and other local government staff for the system to operate smoothly..

He also charged the participants to educate and train other staff who were not opportune to participate in the training Workshop, this according to him will assist in building the capacity of their subordinates.

In his contribution, the Special Adviser LG Inspectorate Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana stated that the lack of an explicit role for traditional institutions in our local government system has made it inadequate to address historical and cultural issues in our local communities which have contributed largely to the present banditry and general insecurity.

Hon. Safana urged the House Committee on Local Government to keenly under- studying the local government system, this according to him will assist the Committee to fish out gray areas for amendments in the state local government law.

He emphasised that, unless such gray areas were addressed, local government system will never be effective as expected.

The Special Adviser pointed out that sustainability, check and balance in the LG administration must be ensured for the system to survive.

He pointed out that there must be coordination between the elected leaders and LG staff for discipline to thrive in the LG administrative system.

Papers on The Role of Katsina State Local Governments on Community Development Programme “Building Your Future”, Role of Local Government Chairmen, Traditional and Religious Leaders in Community Security Watch, Accountability and Service Delivery were presented.

Other Papers presented include Procurement Rules and Best Practices, Understand Local Government Administration, Role and Responsibilities of the Local Government Inspectorate, Institutions of Compliance in Local Government Administration, The Relationship Between The State and Local Government as well as The Relationship Between Local Government Chairmen and Their Councillors.

Notables that attended the Seminar include Chairman House Committee on Local Government, Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, Chairman State Local Government Service Commission alongside his Permanent Commissioners Executive Secretary Staff Pension Board, and Local Government Audit.

Others were Permanent Secretary State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Directors of Finance and Account, Admin and Supply, Political, Works, and Inspection.
