The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has called for intensified prayers, unity, and peaceful coexistence as Christians and Muslims across the state commence the sacred seasons of Lent and Ramadan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, FSI, felicitated with faithful of both religions, urging them to embrace the solemn periods as moments of deep reflection, sacrifice, and renewed commitment to societal harmony.
Azare described Lent and Ramadan as seasons that embody self-discipline, love, forgiveness, and devotion to God — virtues he said are crucial to strengthening peace and stability in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
He called on residents to pray fervently for sustained peace, security, and national progress, while also supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that would aid proactive policing.
Reassuring citizens of their safety, the Police Commissioner disclosed that robust security arrangements have been activated across the state before, during, and after the fasting periods.
According to him, strategic deployments, intensified patrols, and intelligence-driven operations are already in place to guarantee hitch-free observance.
Azare, however, sounded a stern warning to criminal elements and mischief-makers to stay away from the state, stressing that the Command remains fully prepared to deal decisively with any attempt to breach public peace.
He wished all Christian and Muslim faithful a spiritually fulfilling and peaceful Lenten and Ramadan season.
