Katsina State Government has taken a decisive stride toward improving electricity access and accelerating energy sustainability with the anticipated transfer of the 10MW Lambar Rimi Wind Farm from the Federal Government.
This development follows the formal approval of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda request to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the facility’s transfer.
This approval is a direct result of the unwavering commitment of Governor Radda, who formally requested the transfer in a letter to President Tinubu.
Following the Federal Executive Council’s approval of the proposal, Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, constituted a 10-member joint technical assessment team comprising representatives from the Federal Ministry of Power, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) led by Engr. Mustapha B. Umara to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the wind farm from May 18–21, 2025.
Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe received the federal delegation alongside Chief of Staff Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, and Hon. Commissioner Local Government and Chieftancy affairs, Bishir Tanimu Gambo.
The Deputy Governor reiterated the administration’s firm resolve to improve power access across the state and emphasized the significance of the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm in achieving this transformative vision.
The Deputy Governor stressed that Governor Radda’s energy-focused leadership has already delivered remarkable results, with over 5MW of solar mini-grid deployments across various sectors within just two years of his administration.
“The Governor targets an ambitious 50MW renewable energy capacity within his first term, and the inclusion of the 10MW wind facility will further cement Katsina State’s leadership in renewable energy transition in Northern Nigeria,” Malam Jobe added.
The Deputy Governor further declared that Governor Radda has assured all relevant federal agencies of the state’s full cooperation and logistical support throughout the transfer process.
“The Governor is also committed to swiftly integrate the project into the broader energy framework of the state to enhance energy security, support local industries, and improve quality of life for citizens,” concluded the Deputy Governor.
The successful acquisition of the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm will mark a critical policy milestone that positions Katsina State as a pioneer in renewable energy adoption and energy independence in Northern Nigeria.
