A Nigeria Customs Service officer was killed in a brutal attack by suspected Lakurwa bandits at the Maje outpost in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Saturday night, November 9, 2025.

According to reports, the attackers arrived in large numbers under the cover of darkness, opened fire on the outpost, and set the facility ablaze, killing the officer on the spot. The deceased has been identified in some reports as DSC S. Muhammad.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants moved swiftly, leaving little time for the officer or any other personnel to respond. The body of the slain officer was reportedly deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, with burial arrangements underway.

No official statement has yet been issued by the Kebbi State Government or the Nigeria Customs Service, though investigations are said to be ongoing.

Security experts warn that attacks on federal enforcement officers signal a dangerous escalation in the operations of Lakurwa bandits, who have been terrorizing border communities and rural outposts in northwestern Nigeria.

Residents and human-rights advocates continue to call for enhanced protection for personnel at vulnerable checkpoints and outposts, emphasizing that such attacks not only endanger lives but also disrupt security and trade along key border areas.

This incident adds to a growing list of violent encounters between Lakurwa bandits and security personnel in Kebbi State, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security measures and intelligence-led operations to protect both officers and local communities.
