In a decisive operation, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious gang leader, Wasiu Akinwade, marking a major success in the ongoing crackdown on organized crime across the state.

Akinwade, who had long been on the police radar for his alleged involvement in numerous armed robberies and violent crimes in Mushin and surrounding areas, was finally captured late Friday night. He was arrested at a hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, following a series of intelligence-led operations and previous failed attempts to bring him in.

Reliable security sources revealed that the arrest was carried out by a Police Tactical Squad after weeks of surveillance and coordinated planning.

During the raid, officers recovered a significant stockpile of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, a K2 assault rifle, a Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action guns, two locally crafted single-barrel pistols, five magazines, and 57 live cartridges.

Also seized were 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm bullets, one spent 5.56mm shell, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports bearing various identities.

Police authorities have hailed the arrest as a major victory in the effort to dismantle criminal gangs and curb the illegal flow of firearms within Lagos State. They emphasized that Akinwade’s arrest would significantly disrupt the operations of several violent groups operating in the state.

The suspect remains in custody, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of his gang and uncover the full extent of their criminal network.
