The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, to allow for urgent maintenance work being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the closure, which will last for 15 days, from Saturday, October 11 to Saturday, October 25, 2025 is aimed at repairing the bridge’s bearings and ensuring the structural integrity of the facility.
The repair exercise will be executed in two phases. The first phase, running from October 11 to 18, will cover the stretch from the foot of the Marine Bridge along Lawani Oguntayo Road (near UBA) inbound Apapa/Costain. The second phase, from October 19 to 25, will focus on the section between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp inbound.
During the maintenance period, motorists heading to Apapa from Ijora Olopa will be diverted through the Ijora Causeway Access Ramp, passing by Ijora 7Up and connecting to the Lilypond Access Ramp. Traffic from Apapa toward Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa will also experience contraflow movements near the work zone.
Osiyemi urged residents and motorists to plan their movements accordingly, assuring that traffic management officers would be deployed to minimize congestion and ensure smooth vehicular flow throughout the repair duration.
He appealed for understanding and cooperation from the public, emphasizing that the maintenance work was necessary for the safety and long-term durability of the bridge.
