The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, Joint Campus Council (JCC), Kwara State Axis, has broken its silence on the recent incident at Kwara State University (KWASU), issuing a bold and unflinching statement: “We stand firmly with our students!”
In a press release made available to journalists, the student body expressed deep concern and outrage over the disturbing events that have unfolded on the KWASU campus in recent days, describing the situation as “unacceptable, provocative, and a direct assault on the dignity and rights of students.”
“We are not just disappointed — we are enraged,” the statement read. “What happened at KWASU is a betrayal of the trust placed in institutions that are meant to protect and empower students.”
While the details of the incident remain under investigation, sources allege that certain actions taken by university authorities or security agents may have involved unjustified force, intimidation, and arbitrary treatment of students — sparking widespread reactions both within and beyond the campus community.
NANS JCC Kwara State, in its strong-worded statement, made it clear that any form of oppression or maltreatment against Nigerian students will be met with stiff resistance.
“The era of treating students like second-class citizens is over. We are the future of this country and must be treated with respect, fairness, and justice.”
The council has vowed to launch a full inquiry into the matter, in collaboration with relevant student stakeholders, and called on the school management to immediately address the issues raised or risk further backlash.
In the words of the NANS JCC Chairman:
“This is not just about KWASU. It is about student rights everywhere. Today it’s KWASU — tomorrow, where next? We are sending a clear message: No student will be left behind.”
The association has also called on the Kwara State Government, Ministry of Tertiary Education, and human rights organizations to intervene swiftly and ensure that justice is served. According to the student body, the silence of the authorities will only embolden those who see students as easy targets for abuse.
In addition to calling for accountability, NANS JCC is planning a solidarity tour across campuses in the state to engage students, listen to their concerns, and reaffirm their commitment to protecting student rights.
“We are students. We are leaders. We are citizens. And we will not be silenced,” the statement concluded.
