Kwankwaso Insists Sanusi II Remains Kano’s Only Legally Recognised Emir

Borno State Government

By Fatima Mukhtar

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has insisted that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the only Emir of Kano legally recognised under the laws of the state.

Kwankwaso said any attempt to announce or install a different emir has no legal foundation, describing such moves as baseless and without constitutional backing. He maintained that the Kano State Government followed all necessary legal procedures before reinstating Sanusi to the throne.

According to him, even top government officials have already acknowledged Sanusi’s legitimacy through their public communications, where they refer to him as the 16th Emir of Kano. He said this further confirms Sanusi’s lawful position and authenticity as the ruler of the emirate.

Kwankwaso appealed to residents of Kano to remain calm and avoid actions that could cause tension. He emphasised that the state needs peace, stability, and mutual understanding, not conflict or division.

The former governor assured the public that the situation is under control and urged all parties to respect the rule of law as the state navigates the ongoing traditional leadership dispute.
