KWANKWASO DUMPS NNPP, SIGNALS MAJOR POLITICAL REALIGNMENT

Borno State Government

In a dramatic political twist, former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing the need for a “strategic realignment” amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

In a press statement dated March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso announced his immediate exit from the party where he served as National Leader and flag bearer in the last general elections.

Describing the decision as difficult, the political heavyweight expressed deep appreciation for the support he received from party leadership and loyalists across the country.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation… this was not an easy decision to make,” he stated, while hinting at a looming defection to another political platform he believes offers a stronger path to national transformation.

Kwankwaso extended gratitude to the party’s National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, and members at all levels for their unwavering support during his tenure.

He also paid tribute to the influential Kwankwasiyya Movement, acknowledging their dedication to a shared political vision.

Despite his departure, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for continued collaboration among political actors to build a more prosperous Nigeria.

The resignation is expected to trigger significant political ripples, particularly in the North, where Kwankwaso commands a strong grassroots following, setting the stage for a potential realignment ahead of future elections.
