The Katsina State Government has welcomed the first babies of the New Year 2026, reaffirming its commitment to the health and wellbeing of women and children across the state.
Representing the wife of the Governor, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Malumfashi, led a delegation to major health facilities in Katsina metropolis on Wednesday, 1st January, 2026.
Speaking at the General Hospital, Katsina, the Commissioner celebrated Baby Sumayya Abubakar, who was delivered at 12:02 a.m.
She thereafter proceeded to the Turai Yar’Adua Children and Maternity Hospital, where she welcomed a baby boy born around the same time, extending warm felicitations to both families on behalf of the State Government.
“This tradition goes beyond celebration; it reflects our administration’s commitment to safe delivery, quality healthcare and the dignity of every mother and child in Katsina State,” she stated.
During the visits, the Commissioner presented the mothers of the newborns with cash support and essential baby items.
She also toured the maternity wards, interacted with other patients and offered prayers for their quick recovery.
Malumfashi reiterated that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda administration is prioritizing maternal healthcare, child welfare, immunization and nutrition programmes to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
“We will continue to strengthen our hospitals, support healthcare workers and ensure that every pregnant woman and child has access to quality medical services,” she added.
She urged mothers to attend antenatal and postnatal clinics regularly, ensure the immunization of their babies, embrace exclusive breastfeeding and maintain good hygiene practices at home.
One of the mothers at the General Hospital thanked the State Government for the support.
“We are truly grateful for this support. It may look small to some people, but to us it means a lot. The visit, the gifts, and the encouragement give us confidence that the government cares about mothers and our babies. We pray Allah rewards the Governor and his wife for remembering us today.”
The event was attended by senior government officials, hospital management teams, nurses, midwives and family members of the newborns.
